I am currently an Assistant Researcher (Ref. 2024.08302.CEECIND, 3-year contract) funded through the FCT Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus – 7th Edition. My research focuses on developing advanced materials for CO2 capture and conversion in biogas upgrading, particularly single-atom catalysts supported on mesoporous carbon. I also coordinate the FCT-funded CharM project (Ref. 16589, IC&DT 2023), dedicated to the development of dual-functional materials for integrated CO2 adsorption and conversion processes. Previously, I was awarded a European Research Area Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF 2021) at the University of Aveiro/CICECO (2023–2025), where I developed sustainable porous silica materials for CO2 capture from biogas. My ERA-PF fellowship included international secondments at the University of Iceland and SINTEF Industry (Norway), strengthening my expertise and international network. In parallel, I held an FCT Junior Researcher position (Ref. 2021.01158.CEECIND) focused on biomass waste valorization for biogas upgrading. I obtained my degree in Chemistry (2009) and my MSc in Chemistry, specializing in Chemical and Industrial Processes (2010), from the University of Coimbra. In 2016, I completed my PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Aveiro, where I developed functionalized periodic mesoporous organosilicas for adsorption and catalysis using both computational and experimental approaches. From 2018 to 2021, I worked at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT-CSFT) in Prof. C.F. Pirri’s group, developing carbon-based materials for gas adsorption, separation, and catalytic CO2 reduction. I later contributed to the EU-funded NMR4CO2 project at CICECO, focusing on the synthesis and structural characterization of porous silicas for CO2 adsorption and separation. I am actively involved in several European COST Actions, including HINT, NETPORE, TrANsMIT, EU4MOF, and EU-CONCERT. I currently serve as Junior WG4 Leader in NETPORE and as both Management Committee Member and WG4 Leader in EU-CONCERT, where I have been involved since the proposal stage. My work has been recognized with 12 national and international awards, including distinction in the Best Doctoral Thesis Award in Catalysis – Ramôa Ribeiro (2018), the EFCATS Young Scientist Contest award, the CICECO Young Researcher Award (2022), the UA Researcher Award (2024), the Ramôa Ribeiro Young Researcher Award (2024), and the Junior FISOCAT Award (2024). In 2024, I was also invited to join the University of Aveiro’s internal MSCA-PF evaluation panel. Despite being at an early stage of my career, I have established an independent research profile, with an h-index of 19 and more than 980 citations (Scopus). I have authored or co-authored 45 ISI-indexed publications, including 18 as first author and 13 as corresponding author, in high-impact journals such as Carbon and Chemical Engineering Journal, and contributed to 2 book chapters. I have presented over 75 oral and poster communications at national and international conferences, served on organizing committees for 3 conferences, chaired sessions at the 2025 E-MRS Fall Meeting, and currently serve on the scientific committee of CICAT2026 in Chile. As Principal Investigator, I have secured competitive funding for several projects, including the CEEC Assistant Researcher contract, CharM, ERA-PF (GRACE), SWAN CEEC Junior, two FCT computational projects, a TrANsMIT short-term scientific mission, and multiple COST travel grants. Over the past four years, I have supervised or co-supervised undergraduate, MSc, internship, Erasmus+, and PhD students working on carbon- and silica-based materials for adsorption and catalysis. I currently collaborate with researchers from 14 institutions across 7 countries, review for leading Q1 journals such as Chemical Engineering Journal, and serve as Guest Editor of a Catalysis Today special issue on advancements in CO2 capture and utilization.
