Jose Outeiro is Full Professor of Digital and Sustainable Manufacturing at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science of the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Charlotte (USA); Associate Professor, outstanding class with habilitation (tenure) at the Laboratory of Materials and Processes of Arts et Metiers Institute of Technology (France); Visiting Professor of the Institute for Production Engineering (wbk) of the Karlsruhe Institute of technology (Germany); Visiting Professor of the Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing of the University of Kentucky (USA); Assistant Professor at the Catholic University of Portugal (Portugal). Dr. Outeiro is a Fellow member of CIRP (The International Academy for Production Engineering), serving the Academy as Chairman of CIRP Conferences and of the CIRP Collaborative Working Groups. Dr. Outeiro is also a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). He is also a member of the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) of the Charlotte Artificial Intelligence (AI) Institute (CLT AI Institute), and a member of the UNC Charlotte’s AI Research Council. Dr. Outeiro was a member of the Franco-German Institute of Industry of the Future, serving at the Scientific Board and as a French coordinator on Advanced Manufacturing Processes. He was also (Co)Vice-President for research at the University of Burgundy-Franche-Comté, member of the French Manufacturing 21 association, member of the French Intercut network, member of the French Titanium Association, member of the Scientific Boards of the Faculty of Engineering and of Beiras Regional Center of Catholic University of Portugal, and Director of Undergraduate Studies in Mechanical Engineering of the same university. Dr. Outeiro develops his research activities on manufacturing processes. His research topics are on: Digital Manufacturing; Sustainable Manufacturing; Multi-physical/multi-scale modeling, simulation, and optimization of manufacturing processes; Digital Twin; Surface integrity and its influence on the functional performance and lifespan of components; Development of advanced manufacturing processes including hybrid processes. Dr. Outeiro was the chairman/ co-chairman of the 13th and 16th CIRP Conferences on Modelling of Machining Operations (CMMO), and of the 6th CIRP Conference on Surface Integrity (CSI). He also organized several sessions on conferences, and a seminar series on “Engineering at XXI Century” at the Faculty of Engineering of Catholic University of Portugal. Dr. Outeiro is member of several evaluation panels, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the European Science Foundation (ESF), the National Research Agency (ANR), and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). He is Associate Technical Editor of the journals “Advances in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering” and “Machining Science and Technology”, and member of the Editorial Board of several international journals. He has also been a member of several Scientific Committees of conferences. He has published more than 200 scientific publications, including papers in journals, conference proceedings, books, and chapters. He has also delivered presentations, lectures and seminars in Europe and the USA.
