I am a PhD student in Biochemistry at Macromolecular Crystallography and Glyco Lab - Functional Glycobiology Groups, from FCT-NOVA (UCIBIO), under the supervision of Doctor Angelina Palma and Doctor Ana Luísa Carvalho. My research interest is to study, at a molecular level, protein interactions that operate biological systems in human health, to understand the biological mechanisms. Towards this, my main scientific fields interests are Structural Biology and Glycobiology, in which I have been pursuing my training. From Feb 2017 to Nov 2019, I had a position as MSc Research Assistant at Macromolecular Crystallography and Glyco Lab Groups (UCIBIO-NOVA). During this period, I integrated the teams of 3 funded projects, which allowed me to gain knowledge in different biological systems and acquire solid experience in protein expression and purification, X-ray Crystallography and in state-of-the-art techniques to assess the specificity and affinity of protein-ligand interactions, such as glycan microarrays, MST and ITC. My work resulted in 2 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, 4 oral communications and 5 Conference Posters. I have been awarded 3 competitive fellowships in funded projects, received 1 Travel Bursary to attend an international scientific meeting, and recently a 4-year PhD scholarship. During the last three years, I have been improving my soft skills by attending workshops and other events and I had the opportunity to tutor different BSc and MSc students.
