I obtained my BSc (2014) and MSc degree (2016) in Biotechnology, at University of Beira Interior (UBI). During my MSc, I developed a lab platform for biosynthesis and purification of STEAP1 protein, a membrane protein with a potential therapeutic effect in prostate cancer. The work “Biosynthesis and isolation of STEAP1 protein from E. coli lysates” comprised the steps of vector design, amplification, host manipulation, biosynthesis and recovery, allowing me to gather experience in several techniques and procedures such as vector design, host transfection, fermentation process, cell line culture and chromatography. This stage of my scientific and academic career allowed to publish one review article as co-author (IF JCR: 2.912) and to disseminate the work through posters and oral communications at international meetings, namely a poster presentation at the 11th YES Meeting, and oral presentation at the XI Annual CICS-UBI Symposium. Moreover, a research paper is under review. After concluding my MSc degree, I received a research grant from Santander Totta/ICI. This study allowed me to continue the work developed during my master’s thesis and the main goal was to unveil the interactome of the target protein. During this grant I was able to establish a totally new co-immunoprecipitation protocol of the STEAP1 protein from tumor cell lines and establish a lab platform for purification through HPLC. In 2019, I returned to academic research, enrolling in the ICON project (Interdisciplinary Challenges On Neurodegeneration), at the Health Sciences Research Center. My work was focused in unveiling the role of the Ago2 protein in the ischemic stroke and its potential role in a therapy for the disease. In this period, I gathered experience in primary cell culture, in vivo experiments with rodents and protein expression and recovery. This work was presented and as an awarded oral communication at the 20th Congress of NEDVC, from Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine, and at the XV Annual CICS-UBI Symposium. From this research project, another research article is underway. In 2021, I joined the R&D Department of Laboratórios Basi, and my responsibilities within this role included the validation of analytic methods, analysis of intermediate and finished product, stability assays, HPLC validation, development of new qualification procedures, creation of SOP’s and reports. Currently, I am working as Life Science Consultant for Capgemini Engineering, where I have enrolled in international projects with big pharmaceutical companies such as Roche and Novartis. My main responsibilities in those projects comprises the validation of medical devices and software as medical devices, computerized system validation, performance tests, design and implementation of lab functionalities, protocols, and the continuous improvement of facilities, helping team with a life science point of view.
