My name is Inês Gomes and I'm a PhD student in Chemistry at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) since 2022. I completed my bachelor's degree in Industrial Chemistry in July 2020 and my master's degree in the same field in July 2022, at the same institution. During my final year of my master's degree, I had the opportunity to receive a six-month scholarship funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), which resulted in the publication of an article as co-author. In 2023, I was also involved in a project entitled “EcOxCoDe - Electrochemical oxidation of contaminants for wastewater depollution” as a researcher. I have a keen interest in the field of chemical sciences, with an emphasis on electrochemistry. Since I began my bachelor's degree, I have always enjoyed the idea of research. I believe that pursuing a PhD will be beneficial for my academic and professional career, as it will help me develop new skills in the field of environmental bioelectrochemistry, and for my personal development, as I am a persistent person who always seeks to learn more. For the past two years, I have been part of a PRR project called “Carb2Soil,” for which I had the opportunity to receive a scholarship. During this time, I had the opportunity to participate in several events, which resulted in various publications in poster format, conference abstracts, and as co-author in other works, including three scientific articles. As an author, I have published a book chapter and have a scientific article currently in the submission phase. My current research focuses on the treatment of agricultural effluents through a combination of biological and electrochemical processes, obtaining a final effluent with reduced organic load and preservation of macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium), suitable for reuse as irrigation water in agricultural systems, thus promoting the circular economy.
