Cristina Isabel Borges Dias Amaral has a degree in Biochemistry (2007) from University of Beira Interior (Portugal). In 2008, she completed her Master's Degree in Biochemistry, at the University of Beira Interior (Portugal), and in 2013, she concluded her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences - specialty Biochemistry, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto (Portugal). Currently and since 2018, she is a Contracted Researcher in REQUIMTE and belongs to Drug Targets and Biomarkers Group, from UCIBIO. She was a postdoctoral research fellow in UCIBIO.REQUIMTE (2015-2018), a Master research fellow (2013-2014) and a PhD research fellow (2009-2013) at IBMC, University of Porto. She published 48 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, which have 2154 citations (Scopus), published 31 abstracts in indexed journals and have a Scopus h-index of 21. She presented 46 oral communications and 91 poster communications at international and national scientific meetings and has received 15 awards and/or honors. She currently supervises 2 PhD students. She have already co-supervised 2 international PhD students, has supervised 4 MSc students and co-supervised 1 MSc, as well as, several undergraduate students research projects. She participates and/or participated in several national and international financed projects. She works in the areas of Biological Sciences with emphasis on Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology and Biochemical Research Methods, as well as, on Medical and Health Sciences with emphasis on Oncology and Pharmacology. Current research is in the field of Oncobiology, more specifically, in the study of natural and synthetic compounds as new and potential anti-cancer drugs for hormone-dependent breast cancer, and their effects on signaling pathways of cell death and endocrine resistance. She is also deeply involved in understanding the biological mechanisms behind the endocrine resistance to the current treatments used in clinic, in order to find new strategies/targets to overcome resistance and improve treatment efficacy. More recently, she is also deeply involved in the study of cannabinoids and endocannabinoid signalling in Cancer and in Reproduction.
