Antonio F. Miguel received the Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics from the Wageningen University (WU-R), the Netherlands, in 1998. He also earned his Habilitation in Mechatronics and Energy. Dr. Miguel is a research scientist at the Institute of Earth Sciences, the pole of Évora, Portugal, where he heads the Complex Flow Systems Lab. He also holds an Associate Professor position with the University of Évora. Dr. Miguel is currently an associate editor and member of the editorial board for 8 international journals. From 2000 to 2008, he was a Visiting Professor at WU-R, the Netherlands, and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Reading, UK, from May to September of 2001. From 2013 to 2015 he was a Deputy Contact at the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA). Dr. Miguel's current research interests include a wide range of topics related to Interdisciplinary Physics and Fluid Dynamics: fluid transport and rheology, disperse systems (complex fluids), complex systems, biosystems, and medical physics. He is the author of 3 books (by Springer in 2004 and 2018, and UNIL in 2006) and over 120 peer-referred articles. Dr. Miguel has the distinction of being among the top 2 percent of most-prominent scientists worldwide (World's Top 2% Scientists list), in its field, according to a study coordinated by Stanford University (USA).
