Antonio F. Miguel currently holds an Associate Professor position with the Department of Physics, School of Science and Technology, University of Évora, Portugal. He received the Bachelor's and MSc degrees from the University of Évora, and the Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics from the Wageningen University (WU-R), the Netherlands, in 1998. He also earned his Habilitation (to Full Professor) in Mechatronics and Energy. Dr. Miguel is a member of the Institute of Earth Sciences, branch of Évora. He is currently an associate editor and member of the editorial board for 8 international journals. From 2000 to 2008, he was a Visiting Professor at WU-R, the Netherlands, and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Reading, UK, from May to September of 2001. In 2013 and 2014 he was a Deputy Contact at the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA). Dr. Miguel current research interests include a wide range of topics related to Interdisciplinary Physics and Fluid Dynamics: fluid transport and rheology, disperse systems (complex fluids), complex systems, biological and medical physics. He has published three books (by Springer in 2004 and 2018, and UNIL in 2006), and over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He is included in the lists of highly cited researchers worldwide, falling within the top 2% in the respective fields, according to a study carried out by Stanford University, USA (https://journals.plos.org/plosbiology/article?id=10.1371/journal.pbio.3000918).
