Felipe de Ávila Franco (Brazil, 1982) holds an MFA diploma from the University of the Arts Helsinki (2017). Based on Helsinki-FI since 2013, his work is developed through the sculpture bias and explores the boundaries of the medium, transposing the principles of sculpture to installations, photography, and video. It investigates artistic materiality through the lens of environmental aesthetics, questioning the conflicting relationship between human society and the environment. Among his latest contributions, it is worth to mention: invited artist to the 3rd Triennial of Contemporary Art of Tbilisi (Georgia, 2019); the solo exhibition Insolit Solids at Hanaholmen Gallery (Finland, 2019); selected project for the special grant to participate on the LABVERDE International Residency Program (Brazil, 2019), participation at KAI Art Center International Residence Program, Tallinn (Estonia, 2019); the collective exhibition Coexistence: Human, Animal and Nature in Kiasma’s Collections, at Kiasma (Finland, 2019); selected work at the exhibition 'DA HUMANIDADE: 100 artists from the collection' at the Museu de Arte Brasileira MAB-FAAP (Brazil, 2020). His works integrate collections such as the Museu de Arte Brasileira - MAB (São Paulo, Brazil) and the Finnish National Gallery - KIASMA (Helsinki, Finland).
