Antje Disterheft is an Assistant Researcher at the Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research (CENSE) at Nova School of Science and Technology, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Her work focuses on transdisciplinary sustainability research and transformative education for sustainability. She is the founder of "The CareLab for People and Planet" (https://the-care-lab.org/), exploring the links between care perspectives, transformative processes, and their impact on well-being, capacity building, sustainability competences, curricula renewal, and institutional change. Antje Disterheft holds a PhD in Social Sustainability and specializes in Higher Education for Sustainability and sustainability assessment tools. In her PhD research, she developed a holistic model for assessing participatory processes in sustainability initiatives, emphasizing learning and reflexivity. She has received research grants (PhD and postdoc) and published 19+ papers (9 peer-reviewed articles, 5 as first author; 6 book chapters, 3 as first author; 1 co-edited special issue; >18 conference proceedings). She teaches on transversal topics in bachelor, master, and doctoral programs, and supervises master and PhD theses. Her approaches to teaching, but also workshop facilitation and other learning spaces, emphasize collaborative and co-creation principles, care-full project management, and aim for creating inclusive and transformative learning experiences. She co-founded the project "Rethink education hands-on" [Repensar a educação hands-on] that offers a training residential for educators in higher education following the model of Schumacher College (UK). In 2021, she was an invited consultant and core expert for a report on Education for Environmental Sustainability commissioned by the European Commission. In 2022, she joined the Erasmus+ project "Mindfulness practices for students in society" (MP4S) as the main project coordinator and representative of NOVA University Lisbon. She has extensive experience in mix-methods research design, qualitative methods, scientific communication, workshop facilitation, online education, and e-learning platforms. She is a certified facilitator for systemic constellations in organizations. She is skilled in event organization (scientific conferences, meetings, summer schools) and received three distinctions, including the Postdoc Academy for Transformational Leadership (2019-2021). She is a frequently invited speaker in sustainability events and actively participates in the executive commission of the Portuguese Network Sustainable Campus. She contributes to interdisciplinary working groups and organizing sustainability-related events on campus (e.g., Care-full Sustainability Campus Days). She is part of editorial reviewer boards for "sustainable organizations" at Frontiers and "sustainability" at mdpi-Sustainability and serves as a reviewer for journals in education and sustainability. With fluency in four languages and strong experience in living abroad (three years in South America during childhood, since 17 years working in Lisbon), Antje Disterheft possesses a high level of cultural awareness and integration capacities that greatly benefit her research and teaching interactions. Research and teaching interests include (Higher) Education for Sustainability, project management, transformative learning, sustainability transitions, transdisciplinary research, (ethics of) care, inner sustainability, participation and collaborative methods, capacity building, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Inner Development Goals.
