Filipa Fernandes Mendes is a Principal Researcher (with tenure) at Universidade de Lisboa, Instituto Superior Técnico, Department of Nuclear Sciences and Engineering. Her scientific activity is developed at C2TN - Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies, where she is currently the Coordinator of the thematic strand "Radiopharmaceutical Sciences and Health Physics" and a member of the Coordinating Commission of the Scientific Council (CC-CC). Filipa Mendes is focused on merging advances in molecular biology with chemistry (radiopharmaceutical and medicinal) to advance molecular and biomedical imaging and therapy. Given her training and experience in molecular and cellular biology, present research interests are the understanding of the biological mechanisms and molecular interactions of radioactive compounds useful as probes for in vivo molecular imaging and/or targeted radiotherapy. She has extended the evaluation of cancer theranostic compounds (suitable for diagnosis and therapy) to 3D cellular models of cancer, and she is currently Editor of a Research Topic on the journal Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences on this subject. Moreover, she is interested in the development of novel molecular tools for the study of ABC transporters involved in human diseases, such as Cystic Fibrosis and Cancer Multidrug Resistance. She is the author of 68 articles in peer-reviewed journals (90% in Q1), 18 of which as senior author. She has over 1650 citations (H index 24 and i10 index 50) and was/is the PI of 3 FCT funded projects (including 1 Bilateral with France) and 1 industry research contract. Filipa Mendes has supervised 5 MSc and 1 PhD to completion and currently supervises/co-supervises 3 MSc and 3 PhD students. Since 2014 she teaches at the Department of Bioengineering, Instituto Superior Técnico, the courses Genetic Engineering and Molecular Biotechnology, and she has received several Excellence in Teaching diplomas.
