Since 1991, I have been actively engaged in the field of education. My academic journey includes a bachelor's degree in History, a postgraduate qualification in Education, a master's degree in History, Defense, and International Relations, and a Ph.D. in Urban Studies, where my research focused on the Lisbon neighborhood of Saint Joseph. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to promoting a more equitable approach to learning and teaching History. Serving as the President of the Portuguese History Teachers Association (APH) since 2013, I have strived to contribute to the evolution of history education in both personal and professional capacities. In pursuit of a fairer educational experience, I have co-authored several textbooks designed for secondary-level students. These textbooks stand out for their emphasis on the critical analysis of primary sources, often presenting unconventional or conflicting perspectives. The intention is to amplify the voices that are typically marginalized in traditional history education methodologies. I was involved in the development of a groundbreaking discipline titled "History, Cultures, and Democracy." This discipline, integrated into the national curriculum since 2019, introduces a novel approach to teaching and learning History. It consciously moves away from Eurocentrism, adopts a multiperspective framework, and places a significant emphasis on fostering students' autonomy. My recent scholarly endeavors have centered around researching the Portuguese process of dehumanization and racialization of black peoples in Africa, a phenomenon that unfolded from the 15th century onwards. This exploration aims to shed light on historical narratives often overlooked and contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of Portugal's complex history. In summary, my extensive educational background, coupled with my commitment to innovative teaching methodologies and inclusive historical perspectives, reflects my ongoing dedication to advancing the field of history education.
