Begoña Farré Torras

Begoña Farré Torras. PhD Art History (2020) at FCSH Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Full-time CEEC researcher at the Art History Institute, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa – School of Social Sciences and Humanities / IN2PAST – Associate Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory. Her research focuses on 20th-century mural painting theory and practice in Portugal and Spain taking a transnational approach to the problem of the modern mural and its political implications in Europe, while paying particular attention to the Iberian countries’ connections with Latin American muralism. She has written extensively on the subject while exploring digital strategies for the study, preservation and dissemination of mural heritage. She is currently Principal Investigator for the research project Mural in Motion - Lime, Pigments, and Pixels – Bringing Modern Mural Heritage Back to Public Life (2023.11110.PEX) (2025-2026) that critically explores the use of computational and digital tools for art historical curatorship, funded by Portuguese national funds through FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., 2023.11110.PEX, DOI https://doi.org/10.54499/2023.11110.PEX. As part of this project, she has curated with Leticia Crespillo Marí the exhibition Dordio Gomes e a pintura mural no Porto. Cal, pigmentos e píxeis (FBAUP 2 February – 2 May 2026) and co-edited its catalogue, as well as supervising an MA in Art History and co-supervising an MA in Animation Arts. She is lead editor for RIHA Journal in Portugal since 2014, and a member of the Editorial Board for Revista de História da Arte since 2024. She has served on the Board of the Art History Institute between 2023 and 2025, as coordinator for the Art Theory, Historiography and Criticism research group.
