Pedro Tomás received the five-year licentiate, MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) from Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 2003, 2006, and 2009, respectively. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, where he has been lecturing several BSc, MSc and PhD level courses related to digital systems design, introductory and advanced computer architectures and large scale computing. He is also the coordinator of the High-Performance Computing Architectures and Systems (HPCAS) group of Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores R&D (INESC-ID). His research is focused on general-purpose and specialized processor architectures (e.g., CPUs and GPUs) and on reconfigurable and heterogeneous systems (e.g., based on FPGAs) for embedded and high-performance computing systems. He is developing techniques for energy-efficient optimization of computing platforms, which can be achieved at the architecture level, by explicitly adapting the architecture to the target application (e.g., by relying on reconfigurable computing approaches), and at the software or Operating System (OS) level, by developing energy-aware strategies for thread scheduling and dynamic voltage and frequency scaling of CPUs and GPUs. He is also researching new models for performance, power, and energy optimization of computing systems, as well as methodologies for efficient data management on many-core processor architectures. He is also interested in recent advances in deep learning and its application in several fields, including bio-medical applications, computer vision, and the modelling of computing devices and systems. He has participated in the organization of several conferences (e.g., EUSIPCO'14, ISCAS'15, SIPS'20, Euro-Par'21), and has published about 80 papers in international peer-reviewed conferences and journals, including in several well-renowned top-tier venues. He has participated multiple times in the evaluation of project proposals for the European Commission, as well as in FET project monitoring. He is a senior member of IEEE Signal Processing and Computer societies.
