Teresa Cunha-Oliveira is a biochemist and cell biologist with a strong research background in mitochondria and drug neurotoxicity. She completed her "Licenciatura" and Masters degree at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, where she developed an interest in the cellular mechanisms underlying drug abuse-induced neuronal dysfunction. In her PhD, she focused on the involvement of mitochondria in drug addiction and obtained her degree from the same university in 2007. During her first post-doctoral period at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) in Coimbra, she collaborated with a Medicinal Chemistry group at the University of Porto to investigate the cellular effects of a newly discovered chemical interaction between heroin and cocaine. Her second post-doctoral period (2010-2012) focused on the role of mitochondria in Huntington's disease, a genetic neurodegenerative disorder. Currently, she is part of the MitoXT group at the CNC, where she established her own line of research on screening mitochondrial health biomarkers and validating mitochondria-targeted interventions. She trained in entrepreneurship at Instituto Pedro Nunes (U. Coimbra) and coordinated a certified service facility at CNC for two years. Since 2017, she has acquired training in computational biology, data science, and data management. Teresa's bibliometric record shows an Hf of 27 and 1905 citations (Scopus). She has published a total of 43 research papers, 12 reviews, and 15 book chapters. She has also reviewed 56 papers and presented 86 oral and 98 poster communications. As the first or co-first author, she has contributed to 23 papers. As a team member, she has participated in 22 funded grants. In her path to independence, she has given 17 invited communications, published 15 papers and 8 book chapters as a senior author. She has supervised 1 Post-doc, 1 PhD, 3 MSc, 14 BSc, and 2 other students, and co-supervised 2 PhD, 8 MSc, 6 BSc, and 3 other students.
