Dr. C. Palladino is an epidemiologist and clinical research specialist with over 15 years of experience leading national and multi-country studies in paediatrics and infectious diseases (HIV, malaria, HCV), primarily across Europe and Africa. Her work addresses critical public health questions to inform evidence-based policy and practice, with a strong emphasis on infectious disease epidemiology, antimicrobial drug effectiveness, and resistance. She has collaborated with leading research institutions and health authorities, leveraging real-world data to evaluate paediatric antiretroviral safety and effectiveness. Her multidisciplinary work has supported the development of public health tools and services, such as an in-house early HIV diagnostic test for newborns doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0181352. She has also served as a consultant for pharmaco-therapeutic assessments that guide health authority decisions, including contributions to WHO's HIV treatment optimisation efforts (doi: 10.1097/COH.0000000000000378). Dr. CP has published extensively, with over 40 peer-reviewed articles—many in top-tier journals (e.g., Lancet, AIDS, Pediatr Infect Dis J)—and a book chapter on HIV and ART. Her work has been extensively cited and has influenced paediatric HIV treatment guidelines (e.g., NIH, PENTA, national guidelines of Spain, Italy, Mexico) since 2012. Additional outputs include over 70 abstracts, 26 conference proceedings, and 17 oral communications, earning six awards, including the Young Investigator Award at CROI 2019. Beyond research, she is committed to capacity building: she has served as Assistant Professor of Statistics at the University of Lisbon, mentored graduate students at the University of Lisbon and LMIC researchers through the IAS Abstract Mentor Programme. She also reviews for Q1 journals and the ESCAIDE conference. Her portfolio includes collaborative work on HIV/HCV coinfection (funded by the Spanish Institute of Health Carlos III), HCV drugs/resistance to inform treatment implementation policy (doi: 10.1038/s41598-020-69692-7), and adolescent substance use based on ESPAD 2019 data (35 countries). She co-led ecological studies on drug-related hospital admissions in Portugal and serves as an expert advisor to Portugal’s National Authority of Medicines and the Global Burden of Disease (doi: 10.1186/s12889-024-18912-0). Dr. CP is experienced in drafting technical documentation, stakeholder engagement, and grant development—having led or co-led eight funding proposals. Her career reflects a consistent commitment to advancing global public health through rigorous research, collaborative partnerships, and policy impact.
