Dr. C. Palladino (CP) is a researcher at iMed.ULisboa, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon. The epidemiology of infectious disease (malaria, HIV, HCV) and antimicrobial drug effectiveness, resistance and treatment optimization have been the bedrock of her professional research, mostly managing and analysing data to generate understanding to be exploited by health services/agencies to optimise public health policy/practice. Throughout her academic training and her long professional career, CP worked at internationally recognised centres of excellence (Marañón Hospital-Spain 2006-2011; INSERM-France 2005-2006; National Institute for Infectious Diseases Spallanzani-Italy 2004-2005; The University of Edinburgh-UK 2003-2004; Centre National de Recherche sur le Paludisme-Burkina Faso 2000) where she acquired expertise in infectious disease and advanced statistical analysis of epidemiological data. Her work has involved multi-disciplinary collaboration within the framework of large European and African cohorts (FCT grant PTDC/SAU-EPI/122400/2010; Palladino et al, DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0181352). Her research outputs include a book chapter (HIV, ART); an article on malaria for scientific divulgation; 28 peer-reviewed publications (for most of which she is the principal or a major author; 365 total cites) in journals of 1st quartile (AIDS, PLoS One) and 1st decile (Pediatr Infect Dis J); 19 publications in conference proceedings; 35 and 24 abstracts at international and national congresses; 17 oral communications, receiving 6 prizes (e.g. Young Investigator Award - CROI2019). Remarkably, her publications on the use of new antiretrovirals for children have contributed to pediatric guidelines, being cited on the NIH, PENTA, Spanish, Italian and Mexican HIV guidelines (Palladino et al, 2015 DOI:10.1097/QAD.0000000000000819). She has worked with the WHO at HIV treatment optimization (Penazzato et al, 2017 DOI:10.1097/COH.0000000000000378). During the last 5 years, CP published 8 original papers, two as corresponding author; has joined two projects on HIV/HCV-coinfection as associated researcher (funder: Spanish Institute of Health Carlos III) and has been Assistant Professor of Statistics (University of Lisbon); has worked on HCV drugs/resistance to inform treatment implementation policy (Palladino et al, 2020 DOI:10.1038/s41598-020-69692-7; Palladino et al, 2018 DOI:10.1038/s41598-018-30528-0). CP is reviewer for Q1 journals (publons.com/a/1212762/) and ESCAIDE; she collaborates as mentor at the Abstract Mentor Programme of the IAS/AIDS conferences to support young researchers of low income countries; she is a consultative expert for the Portuguese National Authority of Medicines & Health Products and collaborator of the Global Burden of Disease. She has conceived, organised and co-ordinated four grant-funding proposals, e.g. CEECIND/00566/2017 ¿Throughcare for prisoners in Portugal¿ (classification 9.2/10).
