Paula C Castilho graduated in Chemistry in 1985 by the Faculty of Sciences of University of Lisbon and, in 1991, finished her PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry at the Chemistry Department of the University of Durham, UK. Worked as resaercher in the National Laboratory for Engineering and Industrial Technology before launching a Chemistry Department at the newly founded Madeira University (UMa). She was Vice-Rector of UMa, in charge of finances and logistics of the building and furbishing of the new Campus. PCC is a founding member of Centro de Química da Madeira, responsible for the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry and Natural Products. Currently, she is also a member of the CQM Executive Board. PCC became an associate professor in Organic Chemistry in 2002 and has held that position ever since. I was head of the Chemistry Department from 2004 to 2019, during which the 3rd cycle (Ph.D.) in Chemistry was created, being its director since the beginning. The scientific activity was readjusted from Physical Organic Chemistry to the area of Natural Products, and PPC has been the proponent and participant of several projects financed by FCT and other European Community sponsorships and others with the private sector. PCC successfully supervised 16 Master students, 4 PhD students (6 currently enrolled), and several postdocs. She is a member of Sociedade Portuguesa de Química (SPQ), Sociedade Portuguesa de Fitoquímica e Fitoterapia (SPFito), and Phytochemical Society of Europe (PSE), where she is the representative of Iberia during the last 5 years.
