Carla Gama is an Atmospheric Sciences researcher, holding a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from the University of Aveiro (2018), in collaboration with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center in Spain. Currently, she works at the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies at the University of Aveiro. Her main skills are atmospheric modelling and data analysis. Carla has participated in several national and european funded projects. She was Principal Investigator of PRUNING - Mapping open burning of agricultural residues from Earth Observations and modelling of air quality impacts, and Co-Principal Investigator of ATLACE - ATLantic interactions via atmospheric water cycle: exploiting a unique dataset from the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition for a better understanding of clouds and precipitation. She currently represents the University of Aveiro in the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service National Collaboration Programme (CAMS NCP), coordinating activities related to air quality forecasting and downscaling for Portugal, and is the institutional coordinator of GREENDT, an Erasmus+ project focused on capacity building in environmental engineering and sustainability in Uzbekistan. With over 45 articles published in journals like Tellus B, Environmental Research, and Science of the Total Environment, her research focuses on air quality, tropospheric ozone, and atmospheric aerosols. She’s also interested in long-range desert dust transport and the impact of weather events on air quality. Alongside her research, Carla enjoys teaching and mentoring aspiring scientists in Atmospheric Sciences.
