Daniela Magalhães has been a research fellow at ESB-UCP since 2020. Her academic background includes a BSc in Biotechnology (2016) and an MSc in Food Safety (2019), during which she completed an ERASMUS+ internship at the Laboratoire d'Étude des Résidus et Contaminants dans les Aliments (LABERCA) in Nantes, France. Her scientific career began as a research fellow in the MobFood project at CBQF-ESB/UCP, where she worked for six months addressing challenges in the agri-food market. Subsequently, she contributed as a research fellow for two years to the European project Medismart: Mediterranean Citrus: Innovative Soft Processing Solutions for S.M.A.R.T. (Sustainable, Mediterranean, Agronomically Evolved, Nutritionally Enriched, Traditional) Products at CBQF-ESB/UCP. This work focused on developing new functional ingredients by valorizing citrus by-products. Currently, Daniela is a PhD student in Biotechnology at ESB-UCP. Her research centers on developing novel functional fractions derived from lemon by-products, tackling critical topics such as food waste and circular economy. Recently, she completed a three-month mobility program at Universidad Miguel Hernández in Alicante, Spain, where she developed a processed meat product-enriched with lemon fiber. This project involved evaluating its nutritional and chemical profile as well as its sensory acceptance. Over the past years, Daniela has authored and co-authored six publications in international journals, presented 15 conference posters, and delivered six oral communications, many of which are related to the valorization of citrus by-products.
