Luís Carvalho (PhD, Erasmus University Rotterdam) is Associate Professor at the School of Economics and Management (FEP-UP), and Researcher at the Centre in Economics and Finance (CEF.UP), both at the University of Porto. He is currently scientific director of the MSc in Innovation Economics and Management at the University of Porto. His work primarily addresses the socio-spatial dynamics of knowledge and innovation, urban economic development, innovation systems and and local economic policy affairs. His research has been published in journals such as Regional Studies, Research Policy, Environment and Planning A, Industry and Innovation, Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy and Society, Growth and Change, among others. Besides conducting scientific research and education activities, Luis Carvalho frequently engages with policymakers and private entities on local economic development issues and strategic planning affairs, and has been invited expert for international entities such as the Urbact secretariat and the European Commission. Current research interests focus on the economic and geographical dimensions of transformative innovation, and he is Associate Editor of the scientific journal Environmental Innovation and Societal Transitions (EIST), published by Elsevier.
