I graduated in Biochemistry at Universidade de Lisboa in 2004 and completed my PhD in Science and Animal Technology at Universidade Técnica de Lisboa in 2010. During the PhD I developed my scientific expertise in molecular and structural biology, and I made several relevant contributions in the field of carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZYmes). After my PhD, I joined the protein crystallography group of Prof. Maria João Romão at UCIBIO, NOVA-FCT. The use of protein crystallography to solve different biological problems has been among my main interests, and I have been involved in different topics in structural-activity studies. In 2018, I was awarded a 6-year contract as a Researcher at FCT NOVA (DL57 contract) with emphasis on X-ray Crystallography and Molecular Biology. My research activity resulted in 20 peer-reviewed publications (8 as first author) and 2 book chapters (1 as corresponding author), with over 572 citations. Since 2011, I am also committed to teaching, being involved in several practical classes of 1st and 2nd Cycle in Biochemistry and Biotechnology at DQ-NOVA-FCT, supervision of 3 MSc thesis (1 as co-supervisor) and 5 BSc students and participation in 1 PhD and 6 BSc committee thesis. I actively participated in 3 INSTRUCT international courses, ISBio2014, ISBio2015 and ECS7 as a lecturer of the ITC and the X-ray modules. Besides all my research activities, since October 2016 I started with a different path in research, and I was appointed as lab manager of the Macromolecular Crystallography Lab (UCIBIO@NOVA) where I have overseen the management of all financed projects including allocated human, material, and financial resources. I have implemented methodologies and good practices for better management of the project’s resources and of any other linked projects that may influence the outcome of the current ones. I have given support for various techniques in Structural Molecular Biology, including protein cloning, expression, purification, biophysical characterization, and crystallization tasks for other researchers from the Macromolecular Crystallography group (headed by Prof Maria Joao Romao) as well as from the Functional Glycobiology groups (headed by Prof Angelina Palma), since these 2 researcher groups share common lab space, resources, and facilities.
