Cláudia Leopoldina Mieiro completed her PhD in Chemistry (2011, University of Aveiro), MSc in Ecology (2001), and BSc in Biology (1997, University of Coimbra). She also holds a postgraduate degree in Planning, Urbanism and Environmental Law (University of Coimbra) and FELASA Category C accreditation in Laboratory Animal Sciences (aquatic organisms). She is currently an Invited Assistant Professor in Physiology and Integrative Biology at the University of Aveiro. Her research is centred on the toxicology and reprotoxicology of emerging contaminants in aquatic systems, and she coordinates the research line “Reprotoxicity of Emerging Contaminants” within the FisoTox laboratory, with a strong mechanistic and integrative focus. She has published 48 ISI peer-reviewed articles (88% in Q1 journals), with an h-index of 19. She delivered 18 oral communications (including 2 invited talks) and 23 poster presentations at national and international conferences. Her dissemination activities include organising 16 scientific and outreach events and participating in more than 50 international events. Her supervision and mentoring record spans multiple academic levels: 2 postdoctoral researchers, 1 PhD completion (cum laude, extraordinary prize), 1 ongoing PhD, 1 MSc fellowship, 5 MSc dissertations, and 24 BSc students (3 ongoing), including international training (Erasmus+ and inter-institutional collaborations). She has also mentored early-career researchers across PhD and MSc levels. She has led and contributed to competitive national and European projects as Principal Investigator, task coordinator, and team member. Evaluation experience includes 6 PhD juries, 13 MSc juries, 1 PhD thesis monitoring committee, 1 PhD external reviwer and 1 project evaluation. She is actively involved in international networks, including the ICES Working Group on Biological Effects of Contaminants and COST Action PRIORITY (CA20101), and contributes to science–policy interfaces through authorship of the ICES WGBEC 2024 Scientific Report. She also engages in science communication through interviews and podcast participation. Her scientific focus integrates ecotoxicology, reproductive physiology, and environmental biology, targeting emerging contaminants (nanoparticles, UV filters, personal care products, and chemical mixtures) in marine and estuarine systems. Key mechanistic endpoints include sperm quality, mitochondrial function, DNA integrity, oxidative stress, and gametogenesis, supported by histopathology, Comet assay, and CASA. Overall, her work bridges mechanistic toxicology and applied environmental science, contributing to biodiversity protection, ecosystem functioning, and the understanding of anthropogenic chemical impacts on marine systems.
