Solange Trindade Castanheira holds a BSc in Medicinal Chemistry from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra (2022). She carried out research at the Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research (iCBR) as part of her undergraduate internship, investigating the role of Piezo-1 mechanoreceptor activation in microglial neuroinflammation and contributing to the understanding of mechanotransduction in neuroimmune responses. She completed an MSc in Pharmacy, with a specialization in Pharmacotherapy and Pharmacoepidemiology, at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto – School of Health (2024). Her dissertation, “Preliminary study for the development of innovative pharmaceutical forms for the pediatric population,” addressed unmet clinical needs in pediatric drug delivery, focusing on formulation development, stability, palatability and adherence-related challenges. This work included the development of prednisolone-based gummy formulations and supported a first-author manuscript currently under review at the European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (submitted 2026). Her scientific activity includes publications, conference presentations and participation in funded research projects. She co-authored an umbrella review on SGLT2 inhibitors in chronic kidney disease, published as an abstract in RevSALUS (2024; DOI: 10.51126/revsalus.v5iSupii.665) and presented as an oral communication at the LusoSaúde Scientific Days. She also presented a poster on innovative pediatric formulations at Congresso Nacional dos Farmacêuticos with the abstract published in the Revista Portuguesa de Farmacoterapia (2024; DOI: 10.25756/rpf.v15i3-4.315). She contributed to the FRUIGU project (UIDB/05704/2020), focused on functional food development through fruit residue valorization, and presented the work entitled “Desenvolvimento de gomas saudáveis e sustentáveis: uma estratégia de valorização dos resíduos de maçã de Alcobaça” at the 7º Simpósio de Produção e Transformação de Alimentos Sustentáveis (ISBN: 978-972-579-080-9). She also engaged in science communication and outreach, participating in initiatives such as ciTechCare Ciência Viva – Science and Technology Week (2025), where she delivered educational sessions in schools related to the FRUIGU project. Since May 2025, she has been a research fellow at ciTechCare (Center for Innovative Care and Health Technology, Polytechnic of Leiria), within the MAP02 – Medication Adherence Platform funded project (FEDER;01487800). MAP02 is a co-promotion initiative with companies in the health technology sector, fostering a translational ecosystem for knowledge transfer to society. This experience has strengthened her interest in academia–industry integration as a key driver for the development, validation, and implementation of innovative health solutions. She recognizes this interface as essential to bridge scientific knowledge with real-world application and to accelerate the translation of research into clinical and societal impact. Her work focuses on developing digital health solutions and a medical device to improve medication adherence and supporting patient-centered care, including data analysis and implementation of technology-based strategies in real-world settings. The experience she acquired in scientific literature review, experimental design and data interpretation, together with multidisciplinary collaboration, has strengthened her ability to integrate knowledge across pharmaceutical sciences, nutrition and biomedical research. Her research profile lies at the interface of these fields and digital health, focusing on real-world health outcomes and the determinants of treatment effectiveness. Her current research focuses on the interplay between biological and behavioral factors, supporting personalized strategies for disease prevention and management.
