Mirtha Alejandra de Oliveira Lourenço is a European Research Area Postdoctoral Fellow (ERA-PF) funded under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)-PF 2021 call. She started this position in March 2023 at the University of Aveiro/CICECO, where she is developing sustainable porous silicas for optimal CO2 uptake from biogas. She holds a degree in Chemistry and a Master's in Chemistry in the field of Chemical and Industrial Processes from the University of Coimbra. In 2016, she obtained her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Aveiro (UA). During this period, under the supervision of P. Ferreira and J.R.B. Gomes, she focused her research activity on the development of new functionalized periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMO) for different adsorption and catalysis applications combining computational and experimental methods. In 2018, she started to work as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. C.F. Pirri at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) - Center for Sustainable Future Technologies (CSFT, Italy). Here, she developed new carbon based-materials for environmental applications, such as gas adsorption/separation and catalytic CO2 reduction. From May 2021 to May 2022, she was a Researcher at the CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials focusing on the synthesis and structural elucidation of functionalized porous silicas towards CO2 adsorption-separation under the EU-funded NMR4CO2 project, led by L. Mafra. In November 2021, she was awarded a Junior researcher grant by FCT (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) to valorize biomass waste for biogas upgrading. In March 2022, she was awarded the ERA-PF grant. MAOL was involved in the European COST action HINT as a research member, which was important to initiate European networking. Up to now, she was awarded 8 prizes. For instance, in 2018, she was awarded the three best Ph.D. theses prize in the Best Doctoral Thesis Award in Catalysis - Ramôa Ribeiro with an invitation to represent Portugal in the EFCATS Young Scientist Contest, being a member of the winning team for the best project and in 2022 she was awarded the CICECO Young Researcher Award. Despite her youth, she has been established as an independent researcher (h-index= 15 and >550 citations from Scopus). She is the author of 36 ISI papers, 17 as 1st author and 9 as corresponding author in high-impact journals (e.g., Carbon and Chemical Engineering Journal), and 2 book chapters. Her work was also presented through several oral and poster communications at National/International conferences. She was part of the organization committee of 2 conferences and her studies were disseminated on European COST Actions, where she participated as a research member. Currently, she is collaborating with researchers from 10 different institutions around 7 countries and she is co-supervisor of 2 Ph.D. and 1 MSc Erasmus student.
