Isabel Campos earned her PhD in Marine and Environmental Sciences from the University of Aveiro in May 2016, and currently serves as a Doctoral Researcher (level 2) in the European SPRINT project at CESAM, University of Aveiro. My research focuses on the vulnerability and responses of aquatic ecosystems to environmental stressors, particularly wildfire impacts on terrestrial and aquatic systems, and the environmental risk assessment of toxic and emerging contaminants. I also explore nature-based solutions, sustainable agriculture, and forest ecosystem resilience, integrating applied research with ecosystem services and climate adaptation to support mitigation strategies and sustainable management. My scientific output includes 48 peer-reviewed papers, mostly in Q1 journals, with 1,541 citations and an h-index of 21, as well as 3 book chapters, 3 technical reports, and 99 conference presentations. This work contributes to several UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in health, food security, and water management, reflecting its societal and global relevance. I have contributed to more than 16 national and international research projects, including EU-funded initiatives such as SPRINT, TRUESOIL, and RECARE, as well as national projects such as AQUAIGNIS, AQUAFIRE, and SOILCOMBAT. I have played an active role in project development and in securing competitive funding. I have supervised 28 MSc students (2 as main supervisor), 14 BSc students (1 as main supervisor), and 6 ERASMUS trainees, contributing to training in topics such as wildfire impacts, soil restoration, sustainable agriculture, and pollutant dynamics. My engagement in the scientific community includes organising and chairing sessions and webinars at international forums such as SETAC Europe and SIBECOL. I act as a reviewer for international journals and as an evaluator of research projects. I served for two years as a Research Expert Member of the European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (EIP-AGRI, European Commission) and am an active member of INSOP and NETSOB (FAO), supporting international collaboration. I actively promote knowledge transfer, stakeholder engagement, and science communication, contributing expertise in environmental risk assessment and mitigation. I participate in outreach activities, including school programs, and organise workshops for non-academic audiences on sustainable pesticide use and wildfire impacts. I collaborate with water authorities, environmental agencies, and agricultural stakeholders, linking research with policy and practice. My academic activities include teaching at BSc, MSc, and PhD levels, coordinating a doctoral unit, and contributing to advanced training initiatives. Since 2024, I have served on the Department Council and have participated as an external expert on international PhD committees, further strengthening my role in academic governance and scientific evaluation.
