Currently, as a Principal Investigator, I am directing my research activities to advance research and innovation in the field of nanogenerators, self-powered sensors, and sustainable materials science. In the role of co-coordinator at MEON, CENIMAT, my leadership has propelled research in “Energy Harvesting, Conversion, and Storage,” with a focus on eco-friendly materials, low-cost manufacturing, and circular economy practices. My domains in the research programs are as follows: • Development, processing, and functionalization of polymer materials and their composites. Designing polymers and their composites for multifunctional applications like energy harvesters, sensors, data storage, and supercapacitors. • Self-powered wearable electronics based on textile and paper substrates. Mechano-responsive energy harvesting systems (Triboelectric/Piezoelectric based). Recycling bio-waste-derived carbon particles into energy applications. • Developing and designing devices for sustainable green technology, projecting Zero E-Waste Challenge. • Investigation of localized current transport dynamics for different materials and materials interfaces. Recently, as the principal coordinator of the "BRIGHT" project, funded by MERA Net, I am supervising the research work development of cellulose foam for energy harvesting and self-powered sensors with two other consortium partners. The project, with a budget of 700K Euros, involves strategic coordination, project progress oversight, and active participation in critical work packages. Noteworthy achievements include advancements in 3D printed cellulose bio-foam and the successful functionalization of bio-foam for energy applications. Additionally, as the responsible coordinator for the "From Fossil to Forest (FF2F)" project, funded by PRR, I have demonstrated exceptional leadership to lead the project work package from FCT NOVA's side. My supervision has led to the synthesis of polymeric nanoparticles and the formulation of functional inks for sensing capabilities. Our collaboration extends to various industrial and research organizations, including Navigator, RAIZ, INCM, NOVADELTA, SUPERBOCK, Jerónimo Martins, CENTI, and ALMASCIENCE. In 2023, a significant accomplishment was the establishment of dedicated teams for both projects and the acquisition of critical instruments, including a 3D extrusion-based printer and a Universal Mechanical Tester with an environmental chamber. In the realm of mentorship, I am supervising the research work based on “Mechano-responsive Energy System” for Ph.D., master, and postdoc researchers. Over the last 5-6 years, I have been working mostly in the group to establish a new area of developing energy materials based on triboelectric and piezoelectric materials. My research approaches promote long-term sustainable and clean-living ideas in the area of 1) sustainable materials and components for wearable electronics, 3) low-cost energy-efficient manufacturing technologies and processes, 3) eco-design and concept of product engineering, 4) green marketing and circular economy, and 5) environmental regulations and standards. My engagement in teaching, particularly in Biosensors, Energy Conversion, and Bioenergy courses, reflects my commitment to shaping the next generation of researchers. Active participation in course development, examination preparation, and evaluation ensures the delivery of high-quality education. Administratively, I have played a pivotal role in project coordination, instrumental acquisition, and recruitment processes. My strategic approach and hands-on involvement in tasks such as the installation and training of research equipment and characterization setup. I have published several scientific papers, review articles, book chapters as an author, co-author, and corresponding author in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and also in open-access journals.

Team has explained the working principles and research activities to the general audience, school students including kids. More than 500 people came to interact our team and experienced the devices with their own hand.

The proud young scientists showed the Minister of Science and Technology Manuel Heitor the projects in which they are working. There was time for questions, answers, and some challenges. They made textile based energy device in 5 days and presented it in final day. The 25th edition of Ciência Viva in the Laboratory promotes 188 internships in 50 institutions.

The development processes of these devices with planar or linear configurations are also demonstrated, as well as their application when connecting simple electrical devices such as an analog clock and LEDs. 2019/07/08 - 2019/07/16 "Ciência Viva no Laboratório -2019" was 5 days scientific program to show the school students about our specific outcomes. We have trained some school students how to functionalize textile fibers and design for human-interactive energy harvester. Students nicely did their job only in 4 days and were able to power up LEDs with their built device. After this achievement they were actually quite interested to study in the area of materials science in future.

We have shown how our prototype device generates energy only from human touch interaction. The exhibition goal was to promote sustainable and green technology and zero e-waste challenge. Also, we focus on the necessity of circular economy in future.
