Pedro Conceição holds an MSc in Micro and Nanotechnology Engineering from the University Nova Lisboa (UNL-FCT), where he gained expertise in materials, chemistry, biology, physics, and electronics. His research began at CENIMAT, focusing on cellulose-based electrolytes for electrochemical devices and transistors, acquiring experience in dye optimization for screen printing. For his master's thesis at INL, he developed a low-cost microfluidic bioreactor for electrochemical sensing of 3D cancer cell cultures, involving 2D/3D design (SolidWorks), micro milling fabrication, cell culture, electrochemical sensing, and immunofluorescence techniques. His work led to poster presentations at international conferences. Additionally, this research contributed to the publication of a review paper as a co-author, titled "Electrochemical Sensing in 3D Cell Culture Models: New Tools for Developing Better Cancer Diagnostics and Treatments", published in Cancers journal. From 2020 to 2022, he was a Research Assistant at CICECO and CESAM (University of Aveiro), specializing in Quantum Dot synthesis and photophysical characterization. His work as a research assistant led to the publication of an article as first author, "Ratiometric nanothermometry via porphyrin inner filter effect applied to colloidal ZnS quantum dots," in Sensors and Actuators A: Physical. He also contributed to an international conference (ICPP-11, USA). Since March 2023, Pedro has been a PhD candidate at the University of Aveiro in collaboration with INL, focusing on the eco-friendly synthesis of Perovskite Quantum Dots for solar cells. As first author, he published the article "Sonochemical-assisted synthesis of CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots using vegetable oils" in Green Chemistry (IF 9.8). He will also conduct a three-month research stay at ICN2 to advance perovskite solar cell development.
