Ana Rita Monteiro is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at CiQUS, University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), working on the GRAPHYRIN project in the group of Prof. Diego Peña (COMMO group, Guitián/Pérez/Peña). Her research focuses on the bottom-up synthesis of atomically precise porphyrin–graphene hybrid nanoarchitectures, combining multistep organic synthesis with on-surface and in-solution polymerization strategies, aiming at next-generation materials for gas sensing. She obtained her PhD in Nanosciences and Nanotechnology (2019–2023, University of Aveiro, Portugal) under the supervision of Profs. Graça Neves (LAQV-REQUIMTE) and Tito Trindade (CICECO). Her thesis, “Porphyrinoid Functionalized Carbon Nanomaterials for Cancer Therapies”, focused on hybrid platforms combining porphyrinoids with graphene oxide/graphene quantum dots for photodynamic therapy and nucleic acid recognition. Earlier, she completed a MSc in Chemistry (2016–2018, UA), a BSc in Biochemistry (2013–2016, UA), and she gained international experience through an Erasmus+ internship at the University of Padova (2018, Italy) and a summer internship at INL (2017, Portugal). Overall, her career has centered on the design and functionalization of porphyrins and carbon nanomaterials, bridging organic synthesis, nanotechnology, and biomedical/technological applications.
