Adriana Cabrita Sousa Pais was born in Portimão (Faro, Portugal) in 1995. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology, awarded in 2016, from University of Aveiro; a master’s degree in food biotechnology, awarded in 2018 from the same institution, with a focus on macroalgae extracts characterisation. Subsequent to her master’s graduation, she initiated a master research grant from March to October. Thereafter, in November of 2019, she began doctoral studies in Industrial Biotechnology at the Chemistry Department of University of Aveiro. Her doctoral fellowship was supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). In 2025, she was awarded a PhD in Industrial Biotechnology, from the University of Aveiro, on the mutual relationship between phenolic compounds and gut microbiota. Subsequently, as a recent graduate, she was awarded an Erasmus+ mobility grant, for research internship at the Università degli Studi della Basilicata (Italy). Currently, she has a postdoctoral fellowship supported by a national project, in collaboration with the FCT, at the University of Aveiro, focusing on the characterisation and valorisation of natural compounds from macroalgae, particularly through alternative green extraction methodologies and exploring their biological activity for high-value applications. She has published 8 articles in peer-reviewed journals, she has a h-index of 4 and 159 citations (excluding self-citations, SCOPUS). Her involvement in the UA initiatives dedicated to the scientific community and public understanding of science, namely, UA OpenCampus, TECHDAYS, and Academia de Verão, represents a significant contribution to the dissemination and promotion of scientific knowledge. She has received 2 awards for the best poster presentations. Her research focused in Agrarian Sciences with emphasis on Agrarian and Food Biotechnology with emphasis on Agricultural Biotechnology and Food Biotechnology. In the course of her professional activities, she has interacted with 82 collaborator(s) co-authorship of scientific papers.
