A. Pedro Aguiar received the Licenciatura (5-year university degree), M.S., and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, Portugal in 1994, 1998, and 2002, respectively. Currently, Dr. Aguiar is a Full Professor with the ECE Department at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP), Director of ARISE - Advanced Production and Intelligent Systems Associate Laboratory, Scientific Coordinator of the Research unit SYSTEC - Research Center for Systems and Technologies, Head of Cyber-Physical Control Systems and Robotics lab (C2SR), and Director of the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR). He is also a member of the Department Executive Committee, the Scientific Committees of the Doctoral Program in Applied Mathematics, and the Master in Data Science and Engineering. From 2002 to 2005, he was a post-doctoral researcher at the Center for Control, Dynamical-Systems, and Computation at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). From 2005 to 2012, he was a senior researcher with ISR at IST, and an invited assistant professor with the ECE Department at IST, Lisbon. From 2012 to 2021, he was an Associate Professor with FEUP, and he taught (or currently teaching) the courses Control and Optimization; Machine Learning; Swarm Robotics Competitions, Bionics and Medical Robotics, Fundamentals of Data Science and Engineering; Advanced Topics on Intelligent Systems; Statistics, Probability and Stochastic Processes; Numerical Methods; Control theory; Digital Control; Linear Systems; Nonlinear Control; Hybrid Systems; System Identification and Predictive Control; System Identification. His research interests are in the general area of Control Systems (theory and applications) with a particular focus on motion planning, guidance, navigation, and control of single and multiple cooperative/coordinated autonomous robotic vehicles; nonlinear control and estimation theory; optimization-based control, optimal control, and reinforcement learning; networked control and mobile networked cyber-physical systems; switched and hybrid systems; performance limitations; the integration of machine learning with feedback control; and large-scale distributed systems. He has been participating in several R&D national and international projects in the area (more than 40, a significant number of which he was the coordinator), and he is currently a Senior Editor of IEEE Control Systems Letters L-CSS, Associate Editor of IFAC Automatica, and Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (TVT). He has authored more than 280 publications, of which more than 70 are in top international journals, supervised or co-supervised 12 post-docs, 12 completed PhD thesis, 5 ongoing, and more than 50 master thesis. In 2021 and 2022, he was in the "World's Top 2% Scientists list", according to citations in Scopus. He has participated in more than 60 panels and evaluation processes of international and national research and technological development (I&DT) projects, namely, for the European Commission (EC) (H2020, MSCA, FP7); Research Council of Norway (RCN); Italian Ministry for Education, University and Research (MIUR); ETH Grant funding program; Czech Science Foundation; EEA Grants; Portuguese Agency for Development and Innovation (ADI); Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and he also participated in various activities for evaluating scholarships and individual applications (national and international), namely, for European Research Council (ERC Starting Grants), Individual Fellowships MSCA, Member of the FCT committee for the evaluation of Ph.D. scholarship candidates, as well as other consultancy activities.
