Laura Coelho has a bachelor's degree in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and did her master's degree in Applied Ecology in 2021 at the University of Aveiro. She started her research in 2019, at the University of Aveiro, during her MSc studies. She addressed the effects of wildfires ashes, namely of ash-related toxicants such as metals and PAHs, on the skin microbiome of the Iberian frog. She focused on the cultivable bacterial isolates with antimicrobial activity, and assessed their growth when exposed to a series of dilutions of eucalyptus aqueous ash extracts, from moderate and high severity wildfires. During this period, she gained experience with ecotoxicological and antimicrobial assays and she also gained experience with capturing and handling amphibians; amphibian skin microbiome sampling techniques; preparation of culture media and aqueous ash extracts; and isolation and preservation of cultivable bacteria. Laura Coelho has published 3 poster communications and 3 oral communications in international and national meetings, and 2 submitted papers in Q1 journals.
