Laís Sousa, MSc (in progress) is a physiotherapist at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo in Loures, Portugal, specializing in neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy with a clinical and research focus on geriatric rehabilitation, fall prevention, and motor function improvement in aging populations. Her academic background includes an ongoing Master’s degree in Physiotherapy (Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy) at Egas Moniz School of Health, where her thesis investigates the "Association Between Fear of Falling, Cortical Inhibition, and Muscle Power Deficits in Older Adults". This work underscores her commitment to understanding the interplay between psychological factors, neurophysiological mechanisms, and physical decline in elderly patients. She previously earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from the same institution, laying the foundation for her clinical expertise. In her current role at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo, which she began in November 2020, Laís designs and implements therapeutic interventions for patients with musculoskeletal conditions, with a particular emphasis on reducing fall risk, managing pain, and enhancing mobility in older adults. Her clinical practice is deeply informed by her research interests, which span geriatrics, chronic disease management (including Parkinson’s disease and dementia), and evidence-based exercise therapies tailored to aging populations. Notably, in September 2024, Laís presented her research on the "Effect of a Structured Exercise Plan on Reducing Fall Risk and Improving Motor Function in Parkinson’s Disease" at the Loures and Odivelas in Health Meeting in Portugal. This work highlights her ability to translate theoretical knowledge into practical strategies for neurodegenerative care. Her contributions to the field were recognized with an Honorable Mention at the same event, reflecting her innovative approach to integrating exercise-based interventions into geriatric rehabilitation. Fluent in Portuguese and with intermediate proficiency in English, Laís combines musculoskeletal assessment, therapeutic exercise design, and geriatric rehabilitation techniques to address complex clinical challenges.
