Laís Sousa, MSc, is a physiotherapist with five years of clinical experience at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo in Loures, Portugal, where she specialised in neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy, particularly in geriatric rehabilitation, fall prevention, and the optimisation of motor function in older adults. She completed her Master’s degree in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2025 at Egas Moniz School of Health, where she investigated the “Comparison of Cortical Drive and Muscle Power in Older Adults With and Without Fear of Falling”, reinforcing her interest in the interaction between psychological factors, neurophysiological mechanisms, and functional decline in ageing populations. In the same year, she commenced her PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Egas Moniz School of Health & Science, where she is currently in her first year working on the project “Pain management in people with dementia who cannot verbalise it: an effectiveness–implementation study in residential care facilities for older adults”. This work integrates clinical research, implementation science, and behavioural approaches, with the aim of improving the assessment and management of pain in vulnerable populations. Her research interests span geriatric rehabilitation, pain management in dementia, implementation science, and the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying ageing-related functional decline. She is particularly focused on improving clinical decision-making and care pathways for older adults living with cognitive impairment, using interdisciplinary and evidence-based approaches.
