Vitor Hugo Pessoa Oliveira

Vitor Hugo Pessoa Oliveira holds a bachelor's degree in Marine Sciences and a master's degree in Marine and Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Aveiro (UA). In 2019, he was awarded a master's research grant under the Remedigrass project (PTDC/CTA-AMB/29647/2017), where he remained actively involved until the start of his PhD in 2021. In 2025, he completed his doctorate in Marine Science, Technology and Management. His research primarily focuses on marine and estuarine ecology, particularly the impact of human-induced pressures on transitional aquatic ecosystems. He initially engaged in environmental monitoring, analyzing contaminants in sediments and the water column. Over time, he specialized in numerical modeling, gaining extensive experience in developing estuarine and coastal models for various ecosystems. This expertise enabled him to integrate physical, biological, and chemical processes, enhancing the understanding of ecosystem dynamics. Additionally, he has investigated the impacts of climate change and explored the potential of seagrass meadows as an ecological tool for restoring degraded ecosystems. Throughout his academic and research career, Vitor has made significant contributions to advancing scientific knowledge in these fields. He was the first author of 70% of his published articles, all featured in prestigious international journals. Additionally, he led the authorship of a book chapter in the Encyclopedia of the UN Sustainable Development Goals - Life Below Water. Beyond his publications, he has actively shared his research as a speaker at numerous national and international conferences.
