João Madeiras Pereira is Associate Professor with Habilitation (Agregação) at Computer Science Department of Instituto Superior Técnico from University of Lisbon (IST/UL) where he teaches several courses in the Computer Graphics scientific area to the Undergraduate, Master and Doctoral Programmes. João Pereira holds a PhD in Electrical and Computers Engineering (Computer Graphics) from IST/UTL, Technical University, December 1996. He also received a MSc and a BsEE degrees in Electrical and Computers Engineering from IST/UTL, respectively in 1989 and 1984. He is the Scientific Coordinator of the Graphics and Interaction (GI) research group at INESC-ID (Computer Systems Engineering Institute which is ranked with Excellent by FCT - The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology). His main research fields are Real-Time Rendering, Physically-based Rendering, Intelligent Graphics, Virtual/Augmented Reality and Serious Games. He coordinated his research team in eight European Commission funded Projects: RESOLV, IMPROVE, RTP11.13, INTUITION, SATIN, MAXIMUS, TARGET and GALA, the last three ones being executed in the last 10 years. He was also the Principal Investigator in several National projects. João Pereira got more than one and half million euros for funding his research activity. He is (co)author of more than 160 peer-reviewed scientific papers presented at national and international events and journals: 1 book, 7 book chapters, 13 archive publications (Springer LNCS), 35 scientific Journal articles and more than 120 Conference papers. The impact of his publications can be found on Google Scholar page which lists about 3000 citations (h-index: 23) in February 2024. He was co-author of 10+ publications rated A/A* or Q1 by CORE/Scimago in the last 10 years. João Pereira (co)supervised more than a hundred students: 7 PhD theses, more than 60 MSc theses, 31 BsEE Final Degree Course Work (pre-Bologna) and 21 R&D Project Grants. He is active in the international community, being member of the Program Committee of important conferences (GRAPP, WSCG, SibGrapi, EuroVis, Eurographics), acting in the organizing committee of some of the topmost international conferences in the area of Graphics and VR (GRAPP, EuroVis, Eurographics and IEEE VR), acting as an Associate Editor for a reputed international journal, Journal of Real-Time Processing (JRTIP) from Springer, and reviewing for all journals and conferences mentioned above and other important venues such as Siggraph and Eurographics. Professor Pereira is member of the Eurographics Association, IEEE (Senior Member), ACM (Senior Member) and GPCG. He was awarded with several distinctions for both activities researching and teaching.
