João Paulo Caseiro Baixinho holds a a B.Sc. in Cellular and Molecular Biology (2016) and M.Sc. in Biotechnology (2018) from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologias da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. His master's thesis project, focused on the development of curcumin lipid formulations for food applications, was developed at the Nutraceuticals & Bioactives Process Lab of the Food & Health Division, at iBET and ITQB-NOVA (Oeiras, Portugal). As a Research Fellow working in the Food & Health Division of iBET, his research focused on using the by-products resulting from agro-industrial waste streams, in a perspective of its valorisation, through the achievement of technology advances in terms of extraction, fractionation and purification processes at the industrial level. The aim is to use of green extraction technologies to obtain extracts and compounds from chicory waste streams to unravel their bioactive potential by applying several analytical and biochemical tools. In 2022 started is PhD focused on the valorisation of winery waste streams: towards a bio-based novel pesticides. Focused on waste valorisation, circular economy and sustainable production chain. João Baixinho has two oral and three poster presentations at conferences where he won a prize for best poster presentation. Participated in the training school: Basic principles of supercritical fluids and actual trends on high pressure and is specialized in the valorization of agri-food waste through the use of green technologies.
