Pedro Miguel R. Barros completed the Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 2012 from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica, ITQB NOVA). He graduated in Biology in 2005 from the Universidade de Évora and more recently in 2018 he obtained the Master's degree in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology from the Universidade de Lisboa Faculdade de Ciências. Presently, Pedro Barros is a Contracted Researcher at ITQB NOVA, in the Plant Functional Genomics Lab under the supervision of Prof. M. Margarida Oliveira. Pedro Barros's domain of specialization is plant molecular biology and bioinformatics. His research interests focus on the molecular mechanisms regulating plant's adaptation to environmental challenges, with a focus on tree species. Pedro is studying the effect of drought and heat stress in cork development, targeting gene regulatory networks involved in suberin biosynthesis. Pedro actively participated in the Cork Oak Genome Sequencing project and is involved in the maintenance and improvement of the CorkOakDB web portal (for genome browsing and data visualization), within Biodata.pt. Pedro published 15 original peer-reviewed articles (one as co-corresponding author) in journals from Plant Science and Bioinformatics fields, including Molecular Plant (2020), Environmental and Experimental Botany (2019), Plos One (2017) and Journal of Experimental Botany (2016 and 2012). He also authored 2 book chapters. Pedro Barros is presently supervising 2 PhD students. He supervised 2 MSc dissertation(s), co-supervised 1 and mentored other 4 young researchers. Pedro has been also enrolled in teaching activities at M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels at ITQB NOVA. He is a coordinator of the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics platform of Green-it BioResources for Sustainability research Unit.
