Ricarda Torre holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) and a PhD in Sustainable Chemistry, jointly awarded by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, the University of Aveiro, and the Nova School of Science and Technology. She began her research career in 2017 as a researcher in the project SAICT-POL/23817/2016, focusing on electrochemistry and the development of enzymatic biosensors for assessing quality and freshness parameters (e.g., biogenic amines) in fish. In 2019, she was awarded a PhD scholarship (ref. SFRH/BD/143753/2019) by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), where she deepened her expertise in electrochemistry and expanded her work to immunosensors for the detection of allergens in food matrices. Following her PhD, she worked as a researcher in the project PTDC/SAU-PUB/3803/2021, dedicated to developing molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for the detection of pharmaceutical drugs illicitly added to herbal medicinal food supplements. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, working on the FCT-funded project CovidSensWaste – Development of Waste-Based Carbon Dots for the Optical Sensing of SARS-CoV-2 in Wastewater (2023.13127.PEX). Her research focuses on the design of sustainable nanomaterials and optical biosensors for applications in environmental and public health monitoring. She is the first author of nine research articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, as well as one review article and a book chapter. In addition, she has actively participated in several research projects, teaching activities, and scientific outreach initiatives.
