Sandie Mourão completed her Doctorate in Teacher Education and Didactics (Universidade de Aveiro) in 2012 and her MA in TESOL (University of Manchester, UK) in 2000. She is presently a research fellow at the Centre for English, Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies (CETAPS), FCSH Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Her career in teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) spans more than 30 years with experience as a teacher, teacher trainer, educational consultant, author and researcher. She specialises in early language learning and picturebooks in English language education. At present Sandie is researching children's literature for intercultural citizenship education and is coordinating an Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education project (2019 - 2022) with five partners - 'Intercultural citizenship Education through Picturebooks in early English Language Learning' (ICEPELL). She is also coordinating national projects investigating 'Assessment in Primary English Education in Portugal' (2018 - 2020) and 'TEYL in the practicum: mapping supervisory and teaching approaches' (2018 - 2020). Sandie has published widely in the field of TEFL, children’s literature and early childhood education, ranging from educational textbooks, teacher resources and scholarly publications (11 books, 16 book chapters and 7 articles), She is a regular invited speaker at scholarly and teacher conferences and is also actively involved in research and teacher associations.
