Sandie Mourão completed her Doctorate in Teacher Education and Didactics (Universidade de Aveiro) in 2012 and her MA in TESOL (University of Manchester, UK) in 2000. She is presently a research fellow at the Centre for English, Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies (CETAPS), FCSH Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Her career in teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) spans more than 30 years with experience as a teacher, teacher trainer, educational consultant, author and researcher. She specialises in early language learning and picturebooks in English language education. At present she is investigating classroom assessment practices in early English language education and children's literature for intercultural citizenship education. She was coordinator of the Erasmus+ project 'Intercultural citizenship Education through Picturebooks in early English Language Learning' (ICEPELL) (2019 - 2022) and a national project investigating 'Assessment in Primary English Education in Portugal' (2018 - 2020), and co-coordinator of a project in Portuguese higher education, 'TEYL in the practicum: mapping supervisory and teaching approaches' (2018 - 2020). Sandie has supervised/is supervising three doctoral students and 18 masters students. She is actively involved in research and teacher associations and is presently the Chair of the ‘Early Language Learning Research Association’ (ELLRA) and coordinates the ‘Primary English Education in Portugal Network’ (PEEP). Sandie has published widely in the field of TEFL, children's literature and early childhood education, ranging from educational textbooks, award-winning teacher resources and scholarly publications (7 books, 4 textbooks, 3 reports, 27 book chapters and 15 articles). She is a regular invited speaker at scholarly and teacher conferences around the world.
