I am graduated in Biochemistry (MSc), from the University of Beira Interior, in 2008. In 2010, I moved to the Netherlands to the group of Dr. Tom van der Pol, at the Center for Experimental and Molecular Medicine (Amsterdam Medical Center, AMC). During that period I acquired skills/knowledge in Infection, Immunity and Inflammation. In 2011, I started functions as a Research Technician in the group of Dr. Ronald Stam, at Pediatric Oncology/Hematology department, Erasmus Medical Center (Rotterdam, the Netherlands). There I participated and contributed for the successful completion of several projects, such as: i) Unravelling drug resistance in Infant Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL); ii) Role of Epigenetics in Infant ALL; iii) Role of Bone-Marrow niche in MLL-ALL using in vivo xenotransplantations models. In 2016, I moved together with the entire team of Dr. Stam to the Princess Maxima Center, Center for Pediatric Oncology (Utrecht, the Netherlands). During that time, while working as Senior Research Technician I was enrolled on the project: High-Throughput screening of Epigenetic-based drugs for the treatment of high risk Leukemias. As Research Assistant, I contributed directly to the different projects running in the team by planning and executing experiments, analysing and reporting data, working closely with PhD students and post-doctoral fellows. In 2018, I joined the team of Dr. Hugo Fernandes and Dr. Lino Ferreira, group of Biomaterials and Stem Cell-based Therapies, at the Biocant/CNC (Cantanhede, Portugal). My current research focuses on the study of GLP-1 receptor expression and beta-cell mass in type 2 diabetes patients. In 2019, I was awarded with a PhD fellowship from FCT to study the Extracellular Vesicles in Diabetes. My research achievements has been published in international peer-reviewed journal, such as Leukemia, Haematologica, Oncotarget, European Journal of Cancer, Immunobiology, the Journal of Biological Chemistry and Clinical Biochemistry.
