Daniela P. de Freitas is a PhD student in Biochemistry (Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, FCUL) with a MSc degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics (defended in 2023, Thesis grade: 20 points; final degree grade: 19 points) from the University of Lisbon (ULisboa), having pursued her Dissertation project at the Protein Misfolding and Amyloids in Biomedicine (PMAB) laboratory, affiliated to the Biosystems & Integrative Sciences Institute (BioISI) at FCUL. She obtained her Licentiate degree (BSc) in Biology in 2018 from the Central University of Venezuela, UCV (final score 19/20; recognized by ULisboa as a Licentiate degree with a score of 19/20), where she developed her Licentiate Thesis work on the effects of combinations of different compounds and Benznidazole on Trypanosoma cruzi (final grade: 20 points), at the Biophysics Laboratory of the Experimental Biology Institute (IBE. Caracas, Venezuela), under the supervision of Prof. Vincenza Cervino, while also collaborating on researching the proteolytic activity of the exoproteome of Leishmania mexicana at the Membrane Physiology Laboratory (IBE), under the supervision of Prof. María C. Pérez-Gordones; both works being shared on various conferences. Her main interest lies on life at the molecular level; for that reason, in order to improve her research and analytical skills after a work-focused year in Spain, she decided to pursue her MSc on Molecular Biology and Genetics at ULisboa, which gave her the opportunity to develop her Thesis work on molecular neurodegeneration under Prof. Cláudio M. Gomes supervision, focusing on investigating the extracellular regulation of Tau aggregation and amyloid cross-interactions in Alzheimer's Disease. In 2023, she was awarded an FCT scholarship (2023.03769) to pursue her PhD project on the interplay between aggregation and liquid-liquid phase separation in neurodegeneration, which she is currently developing at the PMAB laboratory, supervised by Prof. Cláudio M. Gomes and co-supervised by Prof. Federico Herrera (BioISI).
