Jane Dias is a postdoctoral researcher at the Gulbenkian Institute of Molecular Medicine (GIMM), where she is part of a research group that study African trypanosomes, particularly Trypanosoma brucei, the agent of Animal and Human African Trypanosomiasis. Her work focuses on host–pathogen interactions, further expanding her expertise in infection biology. Jane holds a PhD in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine (PDBEB) from the University of Coimbra, completed in 2024. During her doctoral training, she conducted research at the RNA & Infection Laboratory at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC/CIBB), University of Coimbra, where her work focused on Salmonella–host interactions, particularly the functional characterization of microRNAs involved in the regulation of Salmonella Typhimurium infection. This research resulted in one peer-reviewed publication as co-first author and an additional manuscript as first author. She obtained her BSc (2016) and MSc (2018) in Biomedical Sciences from Universidade da Beira Interior. In addition to her research activities, Jane is an active member of the scientific community, participating and designing outreach activities, having organized scientific events, contributed to science-based entrepreneurial initiatives through the development and presentation of innovative business ideas, and participated in research training programs. Her areas of expertise include Microbiology, infectious desiases, host–pathogen interactions, and high-content screening assays.
