In February 2025, she commenced her PhD studies in Linguistics Applied to Translation at the School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon. This followed the successful completion of her master’s degree in Translation in September 2024, during which she defended a dissertation titled "Translators and Artificial Intelligence: Ethical Reflections on Machine Translation", having as members of the jury Dr. Alexandra Assis Rosa (FLUL), Dr. Helena Moniz (CLUL/INESC-ID), Dr. Kaisa Koskinen (Tampere University) and Dr. Mary Nurminen (Tampere University). The research conducted for her master's thesis, made in close collaboration with a colleague from Tampere University who worked on a mirroring thesis in Finland, has been recognised, leading to her selection to present the findings at the 11th European Society for Translation Studies (EST) Congress, scheduled to take place at the University of Leeds in June 2025. It was also featured by one of her supervisors, Dr. Mary Nurminen, for a broad audience of participants at the Terässä (Finnish Master Translators Association) Annual Meeting in February 2025. Currently, she is also engaged in a BridgeAI project focused on AI literacy for translators, which is a critical aspect of her PhD research. Additionally, she is serving as a reviewer for the 12th edition of the Disfluency in Spontaneous Speech Workshop (DiSS 2025), set to take place in Lisbon next September. Prior to her doctoral studies, she was invited to deliver two guest lectures to students enrolled in the Master's in Translation at the School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Lisbon, in April and October 2024 respectively. She has also actively participated in conferences and events focused on the intersection of Machine Translation, Artificial Intelligence, and Ethics. These include, among others, an online lecture by Professor Lawrence Venuti, moderated by Dr. Helena Moniz, titled "The Human Translator and AI: Algorithms of Interpretation" hosted by the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies in March 2025 or the Bridge AI Conference - "Portugal at the Forefront of Artificial Intelligence Regulation" in October 2024. Prior to her current academic pursuits, she obtained two postgraduate diplomas: one in Legal and Economic Translation from ISLA – Instituto Superior de Línguas e Administração in 2009, and another in Pharmaceutical Marketing from IPAM, the Marketing Business School, in 2004. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Languages and Modern Literature from the NOVA University of Lisbon – School of Social Sciences and Humanities, awarded in 1992. Throughout her career since 1992, she has held various roles within multinational companies, primarily within finance departments, where translation was a core responsibility. For the last six years, she has been working as a full-time professional freelance translator, specialising in legal and economic translation.
