Sónia Pires Celeiro

Sónia Celeiro holds a degree in Biology-Geology (2013–2016) and a master’s degree in Health Sciences from the University of Minho, completed in 2018. Since January 2021, she has been a PhD student in the Health Sciences Doctoral Program at the University of Minho, focusing her dissertation on understanding the role and therapeutic potential of SPINT2 in melanoma. Her research is being conducted at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS) in Braga, Portugal, and at the Department of Haemato-Oncology, Cell and Gene Therapy at Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome, Italy. She has published six articles, one book chapter, and presented thirteen conference posters. Throughout her academic journey, she has mentored nine students and was awarded in 2019 by the Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro through the national competition "Bolsa da Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro / Fundação PT (2018)" for her scientific project titled "Therapeutic relevance of the tumor suppressor gene SPINT2 in Melanoma." In her Ciência Vitae curriculum, the most frequently referenced terms in the context of her scientific and technological outputs include: SPINT2, melanoma, biomarker, oncobiology, cancer, and molecular targeted therapies. She has hands-on experience with a variety of techniques, including qRT-PCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and functional assays in both 2D and 3D culture models (wound-healing, migration, invasion, cell viability, tumor spheroid growth), as well as drug screening and the Chick Chorioallantoic Membrane (CAM) assay.
