Mauro Figueiredo is Professor at the University of Algarve, Portugal. He received his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Salford, UK. His research interests are in Information Technologies for Education, Virtual and Augmented Reality. He is full member of the Marine and Environmental Research Center (CIMA) and member of the Arts and Communication Research Center (CIAC). He is author of more than seventy international journal and conferences articles, book chapters and books, with several papers best awards and organized several international conferences. He collaborated and participated in different national and international projects. He participated as researcher in projects: M5SAR: Mobile Five Senses Augmented Reality System for Museums; Production of digital surface models combining aerial photographs obtained from UAVs and terrestrial photogrammetry techniques; PRHOLO: The realistic holographic public relations; VIZIR - Visualizing Massive 3D Data Sets Interactively on Commodity Clusters. He was the Principal Investigator of the MILAGE-MathematIcs bLended Augmented GamE, an ERASMUS+ project to improve mathematical performance and achievements for all students taking advantage of mobile devices for teaching and learning, extending the traditional learning environment to a virtual classroom setting that will keep students connected for learning mathematics by the exploration of motivating math tools. Currently is the Principal Investigator of the: LEARN+, an Erasmus+ project to build communities of teachers producers and implement personalized learning of mathematics supported by machine learning and block chain to assess competences; LEARN+ SCHOOL to implement a innovative pedagogical model in a new school in construction in the Lagoa municipality. He is also researcher in the projects: TrailGazerBid Enhancing natural and cultural assets to stimulate economic development; The Muge Shellmiddens: A new portal to the last hunter-gatherers the Tagus valley; INCOLLAB Interdisciplinary collaborative approaches to learning and teaching; KCITAR Algarve to enhance synergies in favor of education, science, technology, entrepreneurship and the dissemination of science, which contribute to the qualification and employability of young people and the population in general, in the region; iHERITAGE ICT Mediterranean platform for UNESCO cultural heritage. He created the MILAGE LEARN+ platform, Patent Nr. US2018286282 (A1), for mobile learning that implements a self-assessment and peer evaluation scheme with educational videos to promote different learning styles and active learner-centered learning. In partnership with the General Directorate of Education, from the Portuguese Ministry of Education, the Portuguese Mathematic Association of Teachers, the Association of Portuguese Teachers, the Portuguese Press Association, the Spanish Federation of Mathematic Teachers, the German Association of Science and Math Teacher and the Cyprus Society of Mathematic Teachers is being expanded to all schools in Portugal, Spain, Germany and Cyprus. He also created the “Histórias Escondidas Museu Municipal Loulé” mobile app for iOS and Android, which is an augmented reality app to show information about artifacts in the museum.
