Daniela Simões has a bachelor's degree in Medicinal Chemistry (2017) and a master's degree in Applied Pharmacology (2019), both obtained at the University of Coimbra. Additionally, she is certified by DGAV to perform experimental research using animal models. After finishing her master's thesis, Daniela was granted a Master Research Fellowship (CY-SENSORS, 2021). In 2022, she obtained another Master Research grant in collaboration with a Biotech Company (Prilenia Therapeutics) in noeurosciences context. In September 2022, Daniela was granted a Master Research Fellowship included in a research project financed by the BIAL Foundation (73/20). In 2023, she joined a European project (Excellence Hubs, CHAngeing) with a Master Research grant in an ageing context. Regarding scientific output, Daniela has published 6 indexed manuscripts, 1 as first author and 1 as co-author in the "Journal of Ethnopharmacology"(IF: 5.20; Q1 in 2022 in Drug Discovery); 2 as co-author in "Natural Product Research" (IF: 2.46, Q2 in 2021 in Plant Science) and Pharmaceuticals (IF: 5.68; Q1 in 2022 in Drug Discovery and Pharmaceutical Science), respectively; 1 as first author in the journal “Behavioural Brain Research” (IF: 2.3, Q2 in 2025 in Neurosciences and Behavioral Sciences); and another as first author in the “European Journal of Clinical Investigation” (IF: 3.6, Q1 in 2025 in Medicine, General & Internal). In addition, she has participated in several national and international meetings, being the first author of 4 and co-author of 3 national oral communications (SPF); co-author of a national poster communication (Annual Meeting in Pharmaceutical Sciences 2019); author of 1 (IBERPHENOL 2020) and co-author of 6 international poster communications (IBERPHENOL 2020; FENS Regional meeting 2023; IBRO 2023; The Barcelona Blood-Brain-Barrier Conference 2025; First International Congress of the Scientific Society of Psychoneuroimmunology 2025). Daniela has also collaborated in the organization of the SPF meeting (Coimbra, February, 2023); in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory; and has also participated in science communication activities for the general public. Concerning Daniela´s technical knowledge, she has developed several areas of expertise in biochemistry and molecular techniques, immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, as well as the maintenance and manipulation of several animal models. Moreover, she has expertise in rodent behavioral tests, brain tissue manipulation, and the culture of primary neurons and immortalized cell lines. She also has knowledge of single-cell analysis, mitochondrial characterization techniques, live imaging techniques, and microscopy, as well as data treatment and video and image analysis.
