Miguel Lino holds a MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering (Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon) and a PhD in Biosciences, Specialization in Biotechnology from the University of Coimbra (2017). Currently, he is a postdoctoral researcher in the Biomaterials and Stem Cell Based Therapeutics Group at CIBB, working in the area of nanobiotechnology and biomaterials for regenerative medicine purposes. During his PhD, he made significant contributions in the field of drug delivery. He was mostly involved in the development of light-triggerable nanoformulations for intracellular delivery of biomolecules with spatial and temporal control for modulation of cell activity. The work was developed within the scope of an ERC funded project (ERC Grant Agreement nº 307384). The results of his PhD work were the first report on spatiotemporal control of multiple biomolecule release from the same nanocarrier. Since 2017, as a post-doctoral researcher, he is working in a project that aims to better understand cardiovascular ageing and to develop therapies for cardiovascular/brain disorders. He has been particularly focused in the development of advanced extracellular vesicle based-therapies for the treatment of brain ischemia. Since 2019, he is also participating in collaborative projects with Professor Costanza Emanuelli (Imperial College, UK) within the scope of CardioRNA CostAction, Dr. Tomas Sobrino (Univ. Santiago Compostela) in the Interreg project Neuroatalantic, and Dr. Marina Resmini (Univ. Queen Mary, London) in the Marie Curie ITN project NanoStem. He is/was team member of 6 national and international projects (>5M €) funded by a diversity of agencies (e.g. FCT, European Commission). Over the years, Miguel mentored 5 visiting students and 2 research fellows and is presently supervising a team of 5 researchers (1 postdoctoral researcher, 1 PhD student and 3 MSc fellows) dedicated to brain targeting therapies. Overall he published 11 articles in high impact peer-reviewed journals, including Nanoscale, Biomaterials and ACS Nano and he has one international patent. Miguel Lino has co-organized 7 conferences/scientific meetings. Since 2019, he is the coordinator of the section Cell Therapies and Tissue Engineering of the Portuguese Society for Stem Cells and Cell Therapies
