Andreia Peixoto graduated in Biochemistry by the Faculty of Sciences UPorto in 2012 and completed her MSc degree in Biochemistry at the same institution in 2014, where she received a merit scholarship for exceptional academic performance. During her Master and PhD, Andreia Peixoto initiated her studies on cell-surface protein glycosylation associated with malignant transformations of the urinary bladder, envisaging biomarkers discovery for theragnostic applications. During her Master and PhD, as a member of Experimental Pathology and Therapeutics Group (IPO-Porto) and Tumour and Microenvironments Interactions group (INEB), she got familiarized with state-of-the-art in vitro techniques, trough the collaboration with IPATIMUP (Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology of the University of Porto). Currently, she is a Junior Researcher at IPO-Porto (CI-IPOP) and i3S, being focused on glycan-mediated immunosupressive mechanisms envisaging novel cancer immunotherapies. In this context, she has proficiency in glycomics and glycoproteomics workflows as well as in novel gene editing technologies and immuno-oncology. She is currently the principal investigator of an FCT funded project for cancer glycovaccines development (https://doi.org/10.54499/2022.03621.PTDC). She often lectures to BSc and MSc courses and actively participates in glycobiology meetings and workshops. She holds 2 book chapters, 1 international patent, and 29 publications (36% as first author; 1420 citations; H-index: 20) in relevant peer-reviewed journals in glycobiology/proteomics, oncoglycobiology, cancer biomarkers and therapeutics. As part of an Oncology Center of Excellence, her research presents a strong translational and market-oriented character, which is expected to translate into novel glycan-based cancer tools.

I developed and optimized advanced proteomics and phosphoproteomics workflows for the analysis of bladder cancer cell models under hypoxic and glucose-deprived conditions at the Netherlands Proteomics Center. This experience enhanced my technical expertise in mass spectrometry-based proteomics and contributed to the project’s goal of elucidating signaling pathways relevant to systems oncology.
