Since June 3rd, 2024, I have been working as an Environmental Engineer at the City Hall of Figueira da Foz. In this position, I act as a municipal researcher focused on the sustainability of coastal and wetland ecosystems, applying a Social–Ecological Systems (SES) perspective. My work centers on the Mondego Estuary and surrounding rice fields, integrating traditional knowledge, commons management, and soil health to understand how primary-sector practices influence estuarine condition, river water quality, and sediment dynamics, supporting informed management and restoration strategies. Since December 2021, I have been working with Efrican Foundation on the project “Roadmap for the Carbon Sustainability of São Tomé and Príncipe”, which aims to design a national sustainable development strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. In this role, I am involved in project management and monitoring, communicating results to diverse audiences, data collection through online surveys and secondary sources, statistical analysis and mathematical modelling of economic activities, development of business-as-usual and alternative scenarios to 2050, and greenhouse gas emissions accounting using the IPCC 2006 software. Previously, from September 2020 to November 2021, I worked as a senior technical officer in the former Economic Development Service (now the Division of Innovation, Science and Economic Development), where I managed the project “Quinta Ciência Viva do Sal”, funded by EEA Grants. My responsibilities included technical and financial monitoring, activity development, and representing the municipality at conferences and events focused on coastal sustainability. During this time, I was also closely involved with the Salt Museum Centre, supporting daily operations, guided visits for diverse audiences—particularly international visitors in English—and engagement with scientific communities. From 2018 to 2020, I was a research fellow at CERNAS, based at the Escola Agrária de Coimbra. Alongside my research, I managed the Symbiosis project, in which the school was a project partner. This initiative aimed to improve the sustainability of agricultural systems by promoting on-farm valorisation of organic residues to reduce dependence on mineral fertilizers, and by assessing farm energy needs to identify the most suitable renewable energy solutions within their environmental context. I am a highly adaptable person, something reflected in my professional path across different countries and diverse fields related to sustainability and environmental protection. I have a strong drive to learn, and when faced with a topic I do not yet master, I remain committed until I fully understand it and the processes behind it.
